Bengaluru: Women in Bengaluru can now hope to learn Wrestling from the Phogat sisters. The offer was made by social Activist and MLA Dr Sudhakar to Phogat sisters at India’s Biggest SELF DEFENCE workshop for Women.
Dr Sudhakar said “I want women in Bengaluru to learn at the Wrestling academy at Nandi hills. It will inspire thousands across the city to learn from Phogat sisters”.
It was Babita Phogat and Geeta Phogat who were the star attraction at the event organized by Matru Trust headed by Dr Sudhakar, MLA Chikkaballapur and Grand Master Akshar.
Geeta Phogat said, “I have been too Bengaluru in the past , but setting up an academy is exciting. I am glad we will take women’s wrestling beyond Haryana”. Thousands of inspired women made a new beginning , adding confidence to their lives by learning Martial Arts at the Self Defence and Yoga sessions .
Champion Wrestlers and Olympians Babita Kumari addressing the women said, “For me and my sister it was a routine from childhood to fight against eve-teasers. Today I am glad that so many women in Bengaluru have taken up the opportunity to get the basic self defence training”.
The Phogat sisters who have done the country proud and have inspired the making of the Hindi movie Dangal have been travelling the country inspiring and addressing and interact with the women . The event supported by Matru Trust, marks the beginning of the initiative of Dr Sudhakar, MLA Chikkabalapur to lead a campaign building Aatma-Vishwas (Self Confidence), Atma-Samaan (Self Respect) and Atma-Raksha (Self Defence).
Dr Sudhakar said, “Babita and Geeta are the Real Stars for women present here. They reflect the determination of Rural Underprivileged women. They have shown that it is possible to fight crime against women , By rising to this level , every woman of India can protect herself with support”.
The Self Defence techniques demonstrated will help women tackle tough situations easily. The 2 day Mega Self Defence Workshop and Yoga Camp elicited big response from women and girls of different age categories .
Grand Master Akshar, who lead the 2 day Workshop is excited, he says “Nothing gives more joy than my contribution to Empower thousands of Women in two days. The Workshop Module devised for the two days helps the participants develop mental strength , self Defence Skills and basic Yoga techniques”.
The movement which began at Bengaluru will see volunteers travelling to other cities. Dr Sudhakar, Founder Matru Shantamma Trust says “The trust will continue to work in the direction of empowerment of women in every sphere of life. Apart from defence , Skill training , Education support , Employment and Self-Employment will be undertaken” Cutting across various age groups , the participants at the free workshop had a lot of good memories to take back .
